Hi, I’m John-Paul, and helping busy professionals and people who take pride in their homes stay on top of their investment is what I do.
A healthy home is a happy home, and I can help you keep yours in tip-top shape. I’ve built many houses from framing to finishing, but here at Mountain Handy Works, I focus on small projects, remodels/renovations, and home repair. There are so many wonderful old homes, especially in New England! My focus is to keep your existing home healthy.
MY STORY
I grew up on a small farm where there was always a plethora of duties and tasks that needed to be accomplished to keep everything up and running smoothly, so I learned to be handy from an early age.
Additionally, my father builds houses, so I was always around that element too growing up. That’s he and I in the images below – when I was a kid and then again thirty + years later!
Although I focused on science during my twenties doing field research, saving lives as an EMT, and rocking-it as a High School Science Teacher (life science), I always found myself returning to the trades during my free-time because I absolutely love building, restoring, fixing, and problem solving!
So I resigned from my comfy salaried job to follow my passion full-time renovating, restoring, and fixing homes! It was a tough decision, but a great choice.

MOUNTAINS & ME
Mountains have always held gravity for me and inspired me to seek and explore. They are themselves the natural “built” environment – and dang if they’re not magical!
If I am not building something , I am most likely out in nature sucking up it’s beauty. Be it hiking, skiing, climbing, fly fishing, or just exploring, mountains and trees are my happy place. So I’m thrilled to be in the Mountains and also building things – both of which I love!!
